How long have you been working with Eurostar?
I am in my third year on the Eurostar Apprenticeship Programme.
Why did you choose an apprenticeship?
I chose an apprenticeship as it allows me to gain hands-on experience whilst also gaining recognised qualifications. I also found that apprenticeships are more appealing than full-time education, as you’re able to earn whilst learning. This was the best route for me because I wanted to find a way of gaining experience in the workplace.
What is the benefit of being on the Eurostar Apprenticeship Programme?
One of the many benefits I’ve found whilst working for Eurostar is that you’re able to expand your knowledge. They offer many additional courses that help develop your understanding of the trains. They also ensure that you get to spend time with each team at the depot to familiarise yourself on all the different jobs they do for the company.
Another benefit is that as apprentices we get to join in with the company team building activities. Last year we went to the Lake District and carried out activities such as canoeing, abseiling and building a raft. It really helped me get to know other people in the company and learn how to work together as a team.
Would you recommend the Eurostar Apprenticeship Programme?
I would highly recommend an apprenticeship because you have the opportunity to gain the same qualifications as someone in full-time education whilst earning. You’re given a lot of support during your apprenticeship programme. For example, if you’re unsure on something that you are working on there are many people that would happily help and teach you. By choosing the apprenticeship route you can gain valuable workplace skills and experience, which is not available if studying full-time. Working with Eurostar has been a great experience so far and I hope to continue my career here when I’ve finished studying.
What are your top 5 tips for those who want to apply for the Eurostar Apprenticeship Programme?

- Working hard will be noticed
- Be yourself
- Always be committed
